Safe identification and comprehensive documentation for your pet – the foundation for travel within the EU and quick recovery in case of loss.

Safe Identification

The Microchip – Your Pet Uniquely Identified

The microchip is a rice grain-sized transponder that is implanted under your pet's skin. It contains a globally unique 15-digit number that uniquely identifies your pet.

  • Painless implantation – like a regular vaccination
  • Lifetime durability without battery
  • Globally uniform ISO standard
  • Cannot be manipulated or forged
  • Can be read by any standard reader

How It Works

1

Implantation

The chip is inserted under the skin in the neck area using a sterile single-use syringe.

2

Registration

We register your pet with TASSO e.V. or another pet registry with your contact information.

3

Documentation

The chip number is entered in the EU pet passport and secured with a barcode sticker.

Travel Document

The EU Pet Passport – Travel Without Borders

The EU pet passport is the official travel document for dogs, cats and ferrets within the European Union. It documents your pet's vaccinations and health status.

Official Document

Can only be issued by authorized veterinarians and contains security features.

Chip Required

Prerequisite for the passport is microchip identification to ISO standard.

Valid EU-wide

Allows travel with your pet to all EU member states and many other countries.

What Is Documented in the EU Pet Passport?

Microchip number with barcode sticker
Rabies vaccination (required for travel)
Other vaccinations if desired
Information about the pet owner
Description of the pet (breed, color, sex)
Veterinary examinations
Antiparasitic treatments
Blood tests if required

For Which Animals?

Microchip and EU pet passport are available for various animal species and are sometimes legally required.

Dogs

In Germany, dogs must be identified. The microchip is mandatory for travel abroad.

Required for international travel

Cats

We also strongly recommend identification for cats. For outdoor cats, the chance of recovery is significantly increased.

Highly recommended

Ferrets

Ferrets also need a microchip and EU pet passport for travel within the EU.
